Q&A about the KA Leadership mailing list

What is the KA Leadership mailing list?

The KA Leadership mailing list is a facility through which leaders of The Kappa Alpha Society may more easily communicate with each other without having to each maintain lists of email addresses.

Yes, that's a great description, but give me a copy of the list!?

No. If you are an approved subscriber to the the KA Leadership mailing list, you will be able to send an email message to everyone on the list without having the list. Further, any static copy of the list is merely ephemeral as people join and leave the list.

Can anyone sign up?

No. Folks who wish to join (subscribe to) the list have to be approved by the administrator. This is a private list for KA and is not open to the public.

Can any interested Kap sign up?

Pretty much yes, subject to excluding those who abuse the privilege or whose email address becomes invalid.

How can I send a message to the leadership of Kappa Alpha?

Once you have joined (subscribed to) the list, send an ordinary (preferably brief) email message to ka-leadership@mailman.qth.net and it will be distributed to all of the members (subscribers) of the list.

What messages should I send -- or not send -- via this list?

This is a mailing list about The Kappa Alpha Society. You really want to stick to communications about KA. Keep your messages timely and brief. Write clearly and succinctly. Sign your messages.
We want messages to this list to be relevant and useful so that people join it and read the messages. Anyone who abuses the privilege by sending unrelated mail or too many unsigned messages won't be subscribed to the list for much longer.

If I send a message to the leadership of Kappa Alpha through the leadership mailing list, will everyone on the list see my email address?

Yes.

Can anyone send a message to the leadership of Kappa Alpha?

No. Only people who have joined (subscribed to) this list, and who have therefore been approved by the list administrator, can send messages to the list.

I have some number of email addresses that I use for different purposes. Which one should I use when sending a message to the KA Leadership mailing list?

Use the address with which you joined the list!

How do I change the email address that I use for the KA Leadership mailing list?

How do we reach undergraduate chapter officers who have not chosen to join (subscribe to) this leadership list?

That, my friends, is a damn good question.

What's the difference between this KA Leadership mailing list and the database of Kaps maintained by our headquarters office?

The database of Kaps includes records of everyone who has been initiated into membership in The Kappa Alpha Society. Only Executive Council and chapter officers may email to that broad list. OTOH, The KA Leadership mailing list is a facility through which leaders of The Kappa Alpha Society who have chosen to join the list may more easily communicate amongst themselves.

If I want to reply to another member's posting, should I reply via the leadership list or privately to that one person?

Depends on the circumstances. Good judgement prevails in such matters.

If I have a private or administrative concern about my participation in this list, to whom do I address it?

ka-leadership-owner@mailman.qth.net

Who administers this list?

Jim G. A long-time KA alumnus volunteer.
